Who these terms cover
Canter is licensed to medical practices under a written agreement with Canter Health LLC, which includes a business associate agreement. We call that the practice agreement. These terms apply to each person a practice authorizes to use Canter, whom these terms call "you", and to anyone who visits canter.health. By signing in to Canter you accept them.
If these terms and the practice agreement say different things, the practice agreement controls for the practice. The privacy policy says how information is handled, and is part of these terms.
Your account
- Canter creates your account at your practice's request. The account belongs to the practice, which can end it at any time.
- Keep your password and your authenticator app to yourself. Never share an account, and never sign in as someone else.
- If you think your credentials have been seen by anyone else, tell your practice administrator or write to us at once. Until you do, what is done under your account is treated as done by you.
- We may suspend an account that threatens the security of the service, and we tell the practice when we do.
Using Canter properly
Use Canter only for your practice's work, and only as your role, your practice's policies and the law allow. In particular, you agree not to:
- open patient records you have no work reason to see;
- copy, scrape, export or retain information other than through the features Canter provides for it;
- probe, overload, interfere with or try to get around the service's security;
- copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the software;
- upload anything malicious or unlawful;
- use Canter on behalf of anyone other than the practice that holds your account;
- put patient information in email to us or in any form on this website.
What Canter is, and is not
Canter is practice-management software: rounding lists and charges, the fax and email inbox, referrals, insurance checks and prior authorizations, dictation, remote-monitoring worklists, and patient texting and calls. It is a tool for licensed professionals and their staff.
Canter does not practice medicine, give medical advice, or make clinical, coding or billing decisions. Those decisions are yours and your practice's. Canter is not a medical device and has no FDA clearance; it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Your practice's electronic medical record, not Canter, remains the record of care. Canter is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call 911.
AI drafts and suggestions
Canter uses artificial intelligence to draft notes, suggest codes, sort documents, summarize reports and answer routine administrative text messages. Every AI output is a draft or a suggestion. It can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. You review it, and you decide: nothing is filed, billed or sent to a patient until a clinician or staff member confirms it. A charge you confirm is your practice's claim. Automated text replies are limited to administrative matters and to replies your practice has approved.
Patient information
Your practice is the covered entity under HIPAA and Canter Health LLC is its business associate. Patient information belongs to the practice. We use it only as the business associate agreement and HIPAA allow, as the privacy policy describes. Your own duties under HIPAA and your practice's policies continue while you use Canter.
Ownership
Canter Health LLC owns the software, its design, and the Canter name and logo. Your practice owns its data and can take it when the practice agreement ends. You receive a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use Canter for your practice's work for as long as the practice agreement allows, and nothing more. If you give us feedback, we may use it without any obligation to you.
Availability and support
We work to keep Canter available and tell practices about planned maintenance, but we cannot promise uninterrupted service. How to get help is on the support page.
The iPhone app
The Canter iPhone app is licensed to you, not sold, for use on Apple devices you own or control, under these terms. These terms are between you and Canter Health LLC, not Apple, and Apple has no responsibility for the app or its content.
- Maintenance and support of the app are our responsibility, not Apple's.
- If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you may tell Apple, which will refund any price you paid for the app; the app is free, so there is nothing to refund. Beyond that refund, Apple has no warranty obligation, and any other claim, loss or cost is ours to deal with to the extent these terms and the law provide.
- Claims about the app, including product liability, a failure to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, or consumer-protection claims, are ours to address, not Apple's.
- If someone claims the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling or discharging that claim.
- You confirm that you are not in a country under a United States government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You will follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile carrier's.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, once you accept them, may enforce them against you.
Our name and contact details are in Contact below.
This website
canter.health describes Canter in general terms and may change at any time. It is not advice. The enquiry form is for practice details only and must never carry patient information. The site and its content are ours; you may view them and nothing more. We may link to sites we do not control and are not responsible for them.
Liability
Between Canter Health LLC and you as an individual user, Canter is provided as it is. We make no warranty to you personally beyond what the practice agreement gives your practice, and we are not liable to you for indirect, incidental or consequential loss. The practice agreement sets our responsibility to the practice. Nothing here limits any liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Ending access
Your practice can end your access at any time, and we end it when the practice tells us you have left. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or threaten the security of the service. What happens to the practice's data when the practice agreement ends is set by that agreement.
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms we post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change matters to practices, we tell them by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Canter after that date is acceptance of the change.
Governing law
Texas law governs these terms. Disputes are heard in the Texas county of Canter Health LLC's principal office, unless the practice agreement provides otherwise.
